The French 75 "Squared"
This is our personal version of the French 75, which we've since learned is a little heavier on the gin than many other versions (hence the "squared"). I still like this drink a lot, but it can pack a wallop if you're not paying attention. In this way, it probably most resembles the cocktail's origin, considering it was named after a French 75 mm artillery gun used in WWI.
Drink it slowly, early in the evening with snacks or hors d'oeuvres. For something a little milder, try the more standard version.
The French 75 "Squared"
(for 2 servings)
3 shots gin
1 shot fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 shot simple syrup
chilled champagne
- Combine gin, lemon juice and simple syrup in a shaker.
- Shake and pour into highball glasses over ice.
- Top with champagne as desired.
- Garnish with a cherry.
