The Ward Eight

First off, this is a classic Boston-based cocktail dating back the turn of the (last) century. Secondly, this is a great intro for people who don't necessarily love rye. Thirdly, a lot of bars have given this cocktail some fun modern twists, so you can expect more varieties to come on this blog. Finally, Chris recently started a new music project involving an R&B/funk band called the Ward Eights. Basically, it's very important that all of us learn to love the Ward Eight.

The Ward Eight
Adapted from The Joy of Mixology
Makes one serving

2 oz. rye whiskey (or bourbon)
1/2 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. orange juice (1 oz., if using bourbon)
Grenadine to taste
Several dashes grapefruit bitters (optional)

- Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake and pour into chilled cocktail glasses.
- Garnish with cherry.
